History

Rachel Uffner Gallery launched in September 2008 as a gallery dedicated to supporting multi-generational artists working in a variety of mediums. Over the past 15 years, the gallery has established itself as a vital platform for introducing new artistic voices, championing female artists, and nurturing significant international careers. Our first home was a small storefront on Orchard Street in New York City’s Lower East Side.  In March 2014, the gallery relocated to a much larger building on Suffolk Street, which was again expanded in the summer of 2019. Today, the gallery operates in a two floor, 5,000 square-foot building with three exhibition spaces, abundant natural light, and 20-foot high ceilings. The gallery’s expansive environment empowers artists to holistically showcase their creative practices across a wide range of scales and media. In addition to the two galleries on the ground floor, Rachel Uffner’s Upstairs Gallery, which has been steered by Senior Director Rebekah Chozick since 2022, offers space to present project-based shows and to welcome guest curators and artists to organize experimental exhibitions, expanding the gallery’s commitment to spotlighting emerging artistic practices and broadening the gallery’s reach and impact.
  • About Upstairs Gallery

Since moving to our current space in 2014, Upstairs Gallery has been a space to present project-based shows and allowed for outside curators and artists to organize exhibitions that complement the gallery’s program. Beginning in 2022, the gallery’s Senior Director, Rebekah Chozick, has been organizing these exhibitions, expanding our ethos of spotlighting emerging voices and broadening the community of artists we support.
