For Felix Art Fair 2023, Rachel Uffner Gallery is pleased to present new body of work by Elbert Joseph Perez, with additional works by Talia Levitt and Anne Buckwalter.

Elbert Joseph Perez’s (b. 1991, Brooklyn, NY) oil paintings are characterized by a generous vulnerability, and often develop from difficult emotional spaces. Drawing from a personal vernacular which includes animals with symbolic significance, objects like eggs and porcelain figurines, and references from art history, mythology, philosophy, and literature, Perez creates
allegorical narratives that reflect on the fragility and strength of the human psyche. This newest series explores the idea of hope and future as a destination, highlighting water and eggs as vehicles to this destination. Perez's first solo exhibition Just Living the Dream premiered in the Upstairs Gallery at Rachel Uffner Gallery in the Spring of 2022.

Also born in Brooklyn, Talia Levitt’s (b. 1989) trompe l’oeil paintings of quilts are embedded with emotional feminist imagery. She refers to her paintings as Schmattas, Yiddish for rags, or beloved clothing worn to shreds, instilled with the history of the wearer. In her newest body of work, she researches her ancestral Eastern European and Russian Jewish immigrant background in the NY garment industry. Levitt’s first solo exhibition will take place at Rachel Uffner Gallery in May, 2023.

Anne Buckwalter (b. 1987, Lancaster, PA) explores female identity and the coexistence of contradictory elements. Inspired by the folk art traditions of her Pennsylvania Dutch heritage, her work arranges disparate objects in mysterious rooms and ambiguous spaces. By imagining obscure narratives that embrace paradoxes, her paintings delve into questions about the female body, intimacy, and gender roles. The artist's second solo exhibition with the gallery will open in September 2023.
