FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Sean Kennedy: successpool
September 12 – October 25, 2015
Opening Reception: Saturday, September 12, 6 – 8 pm
Domino's Reference #: 1287869
Sean,
Thank you for taking the time to contact the Domino's Pizza Customer Care Team.
The Domino's Pizza logo can be produced in two-color or all black. In color, the Domino's logo prints in two colors (PMS or CMYK equivalents as noted): Red PMS 186 (C=0%, M=100%, Y=81%, K=4%), Blue PMS 307 (C=100%, M=16%, Y=0%, K=27%).
If positioned on a colored background, a white border is required. The border should equal the width of the opening between the modules. The border should have the same corner radius as the logo modules. The circle "r" (i.e. ®) should print outside the border in white. The dots and words "Domino's Pizza" must be white.
The logo should appear no smaller than 3/8" measured diagonally (parallel) to the words in the logo.
Most sincerely,
Domino's Pizza Customer Care
Rachel Uffner Gallery is pleased to present successpool, an exhibition of new work by Sean Kennedy. This is the artist’s first solo show in New York.
The works in this exhibition occupy two distinct planes within the gallery – one vertical and one horizontal.
The wall works, hung within the confines of the north wall of the ground floor gallery, expand upon earlier works in which corporate graphic motifs were appropriated from model car decal kits to form a basis for painterly abstraction. Featuring imagery from investment banking, probiotics, Pop Art, an Asian airline, energy drinks, a 1970s cartoon, breath mints, the US military, a butcher’s carcass diagram, the chemical industry, the auto parts industry, a convenience store and more, these new works have adopted a variety of formats. Many have evolved from rectangle to circle, responding to the demands of an increasingly chaotic and amorphous spatial construction, some substituting folding tables for the basic frame. The tables embody the flatness of the painting surface in their collapsibility, but their function has been doubly denied in the shift from horizontal to vertical and in being sealed shut.
Upstairs, repetition and variation are considered in a group of clear overhead panels containing arrangements of things like test tubes, light bulbs, fence gates, Cup O’ Noodles containers, trash, suds pails, photographs, fake French fries, a hamster cage, ear plugs, and Play-Doh cups. Unlike other works in this series, whose contents and compositions have all been unique, these pieces are built on the same template; fluctuation only occurs within designated zones.
All works in the show have both pictorial and sculptural qualities, indiscriminately oscillating between screen and container, confrontation and immersion, mutability and brutal specificity. Their installation within rigidly defined architectural parameters stages the exhibition space itself as a frame by simulating the distribution of elements in discrete works.
